Municipal Permits

Filming on public property in South Africa needs a filming permit from the municipal Film Office. Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban have busy film offices that handle everything from student projects to full commercial shoots.

A street closure permit lets you close a residential or minor road temporarily. You'll need signed consent from most affected residents and a traffic management plan.

Billboards, wall wraps and other outdoor advertising must be approved by your municipality's Outdoor Advertising and Signage unit. Structural and safety approvals also apply.

A temporary parking permit reserves on-street bays for a specific period — for events, weddings, film shoots, container drop-offs and short-term construction. Apply at your municipal parking authority.
