Foreign-registered aircraft and non-standard aviation activities in South African airspace need authorisation from the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) under the Civil Aviation Act 13 of 2009 and the Civil Aviation Regulations 2011. For commercial operators this is a Foreign Operator Permit (FOP); for one-off private flights, ferry flights or filming it is a Special Flight Permit or Part 91 short-term authorisation.

Vessels operating temporarily in South African waters — foreign yachts, charter operations and research vessels — need authorisation from the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).
